There's only 1 Target in Hawaii %26amp; its on the island of Maui. I don't know if they have Wendy's because I don't eat there %26amp; I never saw it either. Yes, they have Macy's, plenty of Starbucks, they have Michael's for scrap booking stuff, I don't know about hobby lobby though, never seen it any where on that island. The breads there are soft, sweet. Donuts are the best called Malasada's. You can get baked goods from Foodland or Leonards Bakery, they have plenty of different bakeries on the island. I never had an issue getting bread or bakery. I always shopped for them easily at the Commissary %26amp; the Navy Exchange, Foodland, etc. All public schools are the same, no contest on which is the best. It's a small island, every body knows every body. Just don't go living in a bad neighborhood. I would recommend the Windward Side or Ewa Beach.|||We have all those--Target is opening in a month or two. These are all on Oahu, not all are on the neighbor islands. There are scrapbooking stores around as well. And many good bakeries--western type and Japanese, very yummy.
Schools depend on the area. These is a "report card" on the schools, I think at the DOE website. Schools in Hawaii are NOT the greatest, so you need to select your housing area by school district instead of convenience.|||If you move to the Big Island (Hawaii), be aware that you have to drive far for majority of the stores. There's a reason why it's called the Big Island.
Here's what Oahu DOESN'T have:
-Saks Fifth Avenue
-Dillards
-Big Lots
-Olive Garden
-Sonic
-Applebee's
There may be a few other places that I can't think of right now.
On Oahu the public school system isn't great, but there are a few good schools out on the Leeward side: Mililani for one. I've heard positive reviews of Moanalua High School too.|||I live on the Big Island .. we have:

And yes we do drive on the right side of the road :)
As far as what area is the best .. I like the Kailua-Kona side of the Big Island: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kailua,_Haw鈥?/a> .
The best pubic school on this side would be Konawaena.|||Neither has a Victoria鈥檚 Secret. :-(|||You'll need a job before you can go shopping, so I hope that has been a factor in your decision on which island to move to.
I know that the Big Island (Hawaii) has malls, several in fact. There's also McDonalds, Burger King, Jack in the Box and I'm pretty sure there's Taco Bell. There aren't any Targets in Hawaii (on any island) yet, though there will be two on Oahu some time in the spring of 2009. I'm pretty sure there's K Mart on the Big Island, and yes, there's Walmart, too. All of the Apple stores are on Oahu and I'm not sure about Best Buy.
I was in Hilo in the early part of 2008 and I would so love to live there. Unfortunately, my job's on Oahu and I really couldn't move to Hilo. If you get to live there, enjoy it! If you live on Oahu, just remember that it's a 'metropolis' like any other major city and has it's good parts and bad.
Editing to add:
Yes, we do have Macy's. My Mom works at one, actually. And we have Starbucks - lots of them :) As to bakeries, yes, we have those, too. Depending on the kind of bread you like, St.Germain's is pretty popular. Personally I'm perfectly happy with what I get at the grocery store, but some folks like the fancy stuff.
As to schools, I'm afraid I can't be of much help there. I went to Aiea Elementary, Intermediate and High. They were okay, I guess. I mean, I could get a job after graduating, so it wasn't a total waste of time. It all depends on what you want out of a school. Some specialize in band (Pearl City) or sports (Kahuku). There are also lots of private schools and several charter schools.|||get big money, you need it oh dont forget your thick skin, you are a haole
