Hi, I'm 21 years old living in Rhode Island. Which is one of if not THE worst state in the US for unemployment. I've been out of work since New Years Eve last year. I was just wondering what the job prospects are looking like in the rest of the US. Seems nowadays you need 300 different certifications to do ANYTHING in RI. I'm hoping it's still how it was before the economy went to crap in other places. I wish it could go back to the old days when if you could swing a damn hammer or an axe you had a job. No experience needed just "do this" and "do that" and then you go home. Nowadays (at least in RI) I saw an ad for a landscaping laborer that required 5+ years experience. I understand people want good workers who know what they're doing but come on!
Everyone wants astronauts to do crap work these days. 99% of people don't care about anyone but themselves and their families which is why the world is how it is. Everyone turning on everyone u cant trust anyone anymore. They're more likely to screw you over to benefit themselves than anything. Seems the US is growing more and more ignorant by the week. I just want a secure job that makes enough money to be able to live comfortably. Does anyone know of any websites with like general labor jobs or a site with jobs that you don't need a masters degree to flip burgers?Relocation to different state help please?
17 MILLION people have lost their jobs in the past 2 years. Stand in line. You've only been out of work for 3 months. Unemployment benefits have just been extended to 99 weeks, which is a historic record and shows how bad things are everywhere.
Do some online research. Google the kind of jobs you think you're qualified for; google the trades you're interested in. Contact some unions if it's a union state. You don't say what your experience or education are, but the good news is that lots of illegal aliens have gone home, so there are more openings for Americans without skills. Target specific companies: look at their web sites, they will tell you what they're looking for and often let you apply online. But don't hold your breath. In my county of 900,000 people, the county govt has exactly FOUR job openings right now. Lots of companies are switching from hiring fulltime to only parttime workers. Finding a job today is a FULLTIME JOB in itself.
I wish you luck, please don't be discouraged, finding a job has NEVER been easy, it's hard work.
