Hi, I'm 21 years old living in Rhode Island. Which is one of if not THE worst state in the US for unemployment. I've been out of work since New Years Eve last year. I was just wondering what the job prospects are looking like in the rest of the US. Seems nowadays you need 300 different certifications to do ANYTHING in RI. I'm hoping it's still how it was before the economy went to crap in other places. I wish it could go back to the old days when if you could swing a damn hammer or an axe you had a job. No experience needed just "do this" and "do that" and then you go home. Nowadays (at least in RI) I saw an ad for a landscaping laborer that required 5+ years experience. I understand people want good workers who know what they're doing but come on!
Everyone wants astronauts to do crap work these days. 99% of people don't care about anyone but themselves and their families which is why the world is how it is. Everyone turning on everyone u cant trust anyone anymore. They're more likely to screw you over to benefit themselves than anything. Seems the US is growing more and more ignorant by the week. I just want a secure job that makes enough money to be able to live comfortably. Does anyone know of any websites with like general labor jobs or a site with jobs that you don't need a masters degree to flip burgers?Relocation to different state help please?
35 years ago you could have got a manufacturing job, that paid enough to have a family. It was just put in your eight hours and go home.
Do not try to sell insurance. Companies will take any warm bodies. They have almost no expense for employees (commission pay only ), so the more the merrier. A very few people in the industry do make lots ( 100 k ). I know the bad part of that by personal experience.
The funeral business should be expanding. No one wants that job so less competition. Truck driving business always seems to need more people.
You could consider joining the military. The Air Force is the best if you qualify. You can get training and get those certifications for future jobs when you get out.
Be careful of any company that charges you to find a job. Many of those are just scams to take your last few dollars.
Check on the Internet for fast growing cities. They may have jobs there.
Companies are shifting back office jobs overseas to India or the Philippines. Call centers in the Philippines are planning to increase by 500 percent.
