On the Big Island, if you are anywhere near Waimea, you MUST eat at Hawaiian Style Cafe. They have the best breakfast and lunch on the island. Large portions.
Get there early. They usually close at 12 pm or when they run out of food. They are closed for dinner. I suggest going there around 10:30 am for great brunch.
I vacationed on the Big Island for 10 days and probably ate there about 5 times. I got fat going there so many times. Great Hawaiian home style cafe.
Its a little hard to find. Its next to the Harley Davidson shop. If you get lost, ask anybody local. They know where it is!

On Oahu, there is a place called the Seaside Bar and Grill. It is on the corners of Seaside and Kuhio Ave. Breakfast is really good and not tooo expensive. Breakfast for my hubby and I including tax and tip was around $12.00 (something like that). The food is real good there.
Depends on what you want, and what inexpensive means to you.
If you're looking for a 99-cent value menu deal, fastfood only. Most "local food" is a plate lunch that will run you around 5 bucks.
You can eat pretty much any type of food you want here. Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, Thai, Korean, Hawaiian, Samoan, Fijian, Indian, American, French, Vietnamese, Mexican, whatever.
Just stop by anyplace, especially if there are lots of locals eating there.

visit the international market on Oahu. It's a huge outdoor market and there is a food court with lots of different ethnic foods, from Korean to Mexican. It's a good value... and lots to choose from.
