Why does the dollar menu cost a penny more?

Ever since I can remember, going on about 7 years now, everytime I (or a friend..we all complain about the stupid penny), go to Burger King we get charged an extra penny for "dollar" menu items. Technically, we get charged two extra pennies.

On the tote board it says that the "dollar menu" items are 99 cents each. But, when you order an item (at least in Rhode Island), your final total comes to $1.08. If you order two items it comes to $2.16. (Our sales tax is only 7% so the final total should only be $1.06, not $1.07 and definently not $1.08.

Anyone know why?Why does the dollar menu cost a penny more?
nah

they know it's not a dollar anywhere in the USA. So I think it's there way of acknowledging that the total on any of these dollar items is always going to be close to 1.10. Many many people are ignorant of even simple things like math, this might be the other reason, lol
This could be because of a few things.

First, it could be because of a combination of sales tax and the little known "dine-in tax" or "take-out" tax. If you look at your receipt you will this in the taxes section.

It could also be because of the national rises in minimum wage that have been occurring over the past few years. As minimum wage goes up, so must prices. It's a vicious cycle. People complain about not making enough money to get by so they raise minimum wage, since they have to pay their employees more they are forced to charge more for their services. Then the price of living goes up and those employees who thought they were getting a deal find themselves in the same boat as they were before, trying to make their way up s*** creek without a paddle. Why does the dollar menu cost a penny more?
You got to pay the employees somehow!!
Taxes.
It doesn't!! When I go, it doesn't!! If it did, I would call them on it. Ask them to break down the bill. Tell them what the price is. Then ask them what the percentage of tax is. They probably won't know what your are talking about, so they will call the manager over, who may or may not understand you either. However, beware that, in many places, it's not a 99 cents menu. It's a dollar menu. So, on top of one dollar, you have the 7 cents, and that totals $1.07.
