WHY DO americans get the impression that ALL JAMAICANS ARE POOR?

THIS ISN'T 4 AMERICANS WHO LOVE JAMAICA!!!

I usually the visit the travel section of Yahoo answers to answer questions about Jamaica given the fact that I use to lived there. Why is that americans have the tendency to say ALL the people on the island are poor? I am from Jamaica and whenI was there I went to a very prestigious high school . I lived in a big beautiful CONCRETE house. I wasn't at any cost poor nor was I hungry because I had KFC, Burger King, Chinese Food etc. to choose from. There are Jamaicans who are poor but if you go throughout our universities you will find these ghetto kids trying to better there lives. If you are poor how can you afford a big house. Is every AMERICAN living in America rich? No to prove this there are ghettos and projects in America also.WHY DO americans get the impression that ALL JAMAICANS ARE POOR?
uh...It's called television. Unfortunately, some people get their views on other cultures from the media and usually it's not something good.



Also, some people tend to clump certain folks into one group as whole instead of judging people as individuals.
People KNOW jamaicans are poor because they will do anything to escape their island of poverty. And I do mean ANYTHING - use the sanctity of marriage to get a green card, prostitute themselves to any foreigner to leave. The FEW that have some money don't want to come here.

Beacause the ones who think that are ignorant red necked s h i t s who know nothing. The two persons who answered first are fine examples. Not all americans think like this.
I've never thought they were poor, I dont love Jamaica and I dont think there poor

I think the way tv shows people images of Jamaica and the people. I am 14 years old and I am Jamaican and I lived in jamaica then came to america. When I was there I lived in a two story house and had a land rover and a range rover. I am well educated and both of my parents went to collage and my dad is a doctor so not all people on the island are poor.
who cares there's bad places all over the world everyones poor anymore....just look at the gas prices!!!lol
